A puzzle takes over a table for days, and that’s the part that kept me from starting one. Bits and Pieces sent me the Jumbo Puzzle Plateau Lounger to review, and its whole pitch is that it brings its own legs.
My sister Shelley came over, we opened a new puzzle, and we got to work.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you do 1,000 to 1,500 piece puzzles and don’t want to give up a table
- Skip it if: you want a board that spins, or something light to carry room to room
- My favorite feature: The legs. Kick them out and the board is its own table, and my coffee table goes back to being a coffee table.
- Would I buy again? Yes
It brings its own legs
The legs fold flat under the board. Kick them out and it stands on its own, a little lower than my coffee table. Right now it’s sitting on the coffee table, and when we need that table back I lift the board off and stand it up somewhere else.
That’s the whole reason I’ll do more puzzles now. Nothing in the house gets taken over.

Who should get a puzzle lounger like this?
Anyone who does big puzzles and shares the house with people who also want to eat at the table. It works for two people at once, because the trays come out and get passed around.
It’s also a gift. I said that on camera before we’d finished the edge, and I stand by it. If you need a puzzle to go with it, the Quokka Hotel Wildeluxe mystery puzzle is the last one I reviewed.
What happened when Shelley and I started a 1,000 piece puzzle on it?
We picked a hard one, so it wasn’t getting done in a day. We had space to spare on a board rated for 1,500, and we sorted a big chunk of pieces straight into the drawers. The edge came together fast because the pieces we didn’t need yet were out of the way.
By the end of the first session we’d both decided we’re spoiled now. This is the only way to do a puzzle. It’s more relaxing when the pieces are organized and there’s room to work, and neither of us wants to go back.
Half of why we got that far in one sitting is that there were two of us. I wrote a whole thing about why someone nearby makes a task easier to start, and a puzzle is a good place to test it.
Three Bits and Pieces details that mattered
- Four drawers, two per side: they pull out smooth with no catching, and they come all the way out, so you can hand one across the table.
- The cover: a clear sheet that goes over the whole board when you’re done for the day. Our puzzle sat under it between sessions and stayed clean.
- The weight: light enough that I can move it around, heavy enough that it feels well made.
What I liked
- The brand name. Bits and Pieces. I said it out loud on camera and I still think it’s cute.
- I’m doing more puzzles now, because starting one doesn’t cost me a table
What to know before you order
- It’s big, and moving it with a puzzle on it takes some effort. Decide where it lives before you start.
- It doesn’t spin. If you want a lazy Susan base so everyone can reach every corner, look at a rotating board instead.
- It stores flat. Folded, it’s under 6 inches tall and slides under a bed or sofa.
Questions I’d have before ordering
How many pieces fit on the Bits and Pieces Puzzle Lounger?
Up to 1,500. We ran a 1,000 piece puzzle on it with room around the edges.
Does the puzzle lounger have legs?
Yes. They fold flat under the board and kick out to make it a freestanding table, a little lower than a coffee table.
Do the sorting trays come out?
Yes, all the way. There are four, two on each side, and they slide smooth. We passed them across the table.
Does it come with a cover?
Yes, a clear acetate sheet that lays over the board and keeps dust off between sessions.
Does the Bits and Pieces lounger rotate?
No. It’s a fixed board. If spinning matters to you, a lazy Susan style board is a different product.
Will the puzzle lounger fit under a bed?
Yes. Folded flat, it’s under 6 inches tall.
Other 1,500 piece puzzle boards to compare
| Board | Size | Rotates | Cover | Stands on its own |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Playboda Rotating Puzzle Board | 35 x 27 in plastic | Yes, 18 in lazy Susan base | Rubber mat | No, lives on a table |
| Bits and Pieces Original Puzzle Board XL | 26 x 35 in | No | None | No |
| Bits and Pieces Adjustable Rotating Puzzle Table | 26 x 35 in felt | Yes | Felt sheet | Yes, 32 in legs on casters |
| Jumbo Puzzle Plateau Lounger (this one) | 25.5 x 34.5 in wood | No | Clear acetate | Yes, fold-out legs |
All four hold up to 1,500 pieces, and the two flat boards have four trays each like the Lounger does. The Playboda is the answer to my one wish, since it spins. The Original XL has one open side, so you can slide a finished puzzle off to glue or frame it.
Would I buy the puzzle lounger again?
Yes. It’s the board that’s out right now, with a hard puzzle still on it.
For big puzzles without giving up a table, the Bits and Pieces Jumbo Puzzle Plateau Lounger is the one I’d get.
