A hydrocolloid patch with tea tree and neem in it
A plain hydrocolloid dot just soaks up gunk and covers the pimple. This one adds tea tree oil and neem oil, plus niacinamide and salicylic acid.
I like that it goes on the outside. No capsule to swallow for a pimple.

Who are these pimple patches for?
Grown-ups who still get the odd breakout. These days I get more wrinkles and blemishes than whiteheads, so most of my routine goes to that, like the Good Molecules serum I’ve been using on my crow’s feet.
A patch is for the day a breakout shows up anyway. It’s a quick step, like the Vitamins and Sea serum I use on rushed mornings.
Wearing one on my neck and my face
I washed up and put the first one on the zit on my neck. It felt a tiny bit cooling, almost soothing. Then I put one on my face too. I bent that one with my nail getting it off the sheet, and it still went on flat.
They’re close to invisible. Someone would have to be right up in my face to catch it, and even then only if they were looking for it. I think the star patches are cute on younger girls, but I was about to turn 48 when I tried these. If I get a blemish, I’d rather wear one nobody can see.
Little things I noticed
- Thin and bendy: no stiff piece of plastic sitting on your face.
- The smell: they smell really good.
- The size: 12mm covered a regular pimple without a lot of extra edge.
What to know before buying ZOVIRA patches
- They go on clean, dry skin, so you’ll have to wash up before each one.
- You might see a little residue when you peel one off. That’s expected, and you can rub it in.
- There are a lot of actives in one small patch. If your skin is sensitive, try one before wearing it all night.
Common questions about pimple patches
Do pimple patches work on deep, painful pimples?
Not really. A patch pulls fluid out of a pimple that has come to a head and keeps your fingers off it. A deep bump with nothing at the surface gives it nothing to pull.
Should you pop a pimple before putting a patch on it?
No. The American Academy of Dermatology says popping one at home often pushes what’s inside deeper into your skin, which can make it more inflamed, more noticeable and more painful, and it can leave a scar. Stick the patch on and leave it alone.
When should you see a dermatologist instead of patching a pimple?
When a deep, painful one won’t go away, or you start getting several of them. A dermatologist can prescribe something stronger than anything over the counter.
How long do you leave a ZOVIRA patch on?
Six to 8 hours, going by the directions on the pouch.
