I like the size of the Glocusent clip-on book light, I like that it has different settings, and I like that it clips right to the book. That was my first reaction, and it’s held up.
Glocusent sent this to me to try. It’s a bookmark-style reading light made for reading in bed when the room is dark and someone next to you is trying to sleep.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you read paper books in bed and want light on the page instead of your phone screen in your face
- Skip it if: you need to light up the whole room, or you only read on a backlit e-reader
- My favorite feature: It’s small and light, and the clip holds on without making the book feel much heavier.
- Would I buy again? Yes
A bookmark-shaped light that doesn’t weigh the book down
The Glocusent is shaped like a chunky bookmark. You clip it over the back cover or slide it in between pages, and it hangs there nice and sturdy. There’s no stand and no long arm sticking out.
It weighs 1.41 ounces, so it doesn’t really weigh the book down. A paperback with the light on it feels like a paperback.

Who the Glocusent book light is best for
Anyone who reads in bed next to someone who’s already asleep. A lot of nights I didn’t want to get up to turn the lamp off, or keep my husband up, so I’d just read on my phone. That was rough on my eyes. This book light is the answer. If you’re trying to trade the phone for something calmer at night, I wrote up my whole evening wind-down routine.
If you already wear blue light glasses for screen time, a paper book under warm light is an easy way to give your eyes a break at night. If you want a soft glow for the whole nightstand instead of just the page, a night light like the Benson duck that glows when you squeeze it is the better pick.
Over a year of reading paper books with it
It’s been well over a year, and I still use the Glocusent any time I’m reading a real book instead of my Kindle. Every book I finish goes into the reading tracker I built with Airtable and n8n.
The routine is quick. I clip it on, press the power button, and tilt the head until the light lands where I’m reading.

The settings I actually use
- Brightness: Five levels, so you can pick how bright you want it.
- Color shade: Glocusent calls these “eye-caring temperatures.” I go with the orange amber one before bed because it’s the easiest on my eyes at night, but it really comes down to preference.
- A head that tilts: It turns left, right, and down, so you can aim it at the page you’re on.
- Battery dots: Four little dots on the front show how much charge is left.

Small details I liked
- The USB plug is built in under the end cap, so there are no batteries and no cable to keep track of
- One press turns it on, with no menu to dig through in the dark
Before you order, know it’s a page light
- It lights the book you’re holding. It won’t light up a dark room, and that’s the point.
- Glocusent’s instructions warn not to force the head past 90° left or right, since there’s a wire inside.
Glocusent book light questions, answered
How long does the Glocusent book light battery last?
Between 10 and 80 hours on a full charge, depending on how bright you run it. Glocusent puts that at roughly 20 days to 3 months if you read 30 minutes a day.
How do you charge the Glocusent book light?
Pull off the end cap and plug the light straight into any USB-A port, like a computer or a wall adapter. The plug is built into the light, so there’s no separate cable.
Will the Glocusent book light keep my partner awake?
It lights the page, not the room, which is exactly why I wanted it for reading in bed next to my husband. Tilt the head toward your book and keep the brightness low.
Which color setting is best for reading before bed?
The amber setting, at 1800K. Glocusent rates it to filter 99.9% of blue light, and it’s the warm orange shade I use at night.
Will the Glocusent clip fit a thick book?
The clip opens up to 150°, which Glocusent says is flexible enough for all book sizes. I use it on paperbacks.
Other book lights to compare
- Gritin Neck Reading Light: Hangs around your neck instead of clipping to the book, with bendable silicone arms. It has three color modes from 1800K to 6000K plus stepless dimming, and charges over USB-C.
- Vekkia Book Light Set: A padded clamp with a 360° gooseneck, meant to light both pages of an open book. It uses a warm white light with three brightness settings and comes with a charger and travel case.
- BIGMONAT LED Book Reading Light: A clip light on a bendable neck with two modes, natural white (4000K) and a warm 1600K. You hold the touch switch to dim it.
Is the Glocusent still on my nightstand?
Yes. It’s the light I grab for every paper book.
If you read in bed while someone next to you sleeps, and you’ve been using your phone as a flashlight, this is the one I’d get.
