Leckar sent me their Sleep Aid tea to try. I’m already a fan of their Hormone Harmony tea and I’m on my second bag of it, so I was really happy to see this one.
What caught my eye right away was California poppy on the ingredient list. I used to take it as a tincture, and it really helped.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you want a bedtime tea with no melatonin in it
- Skip it if: you want grab-and-go tea bags
- My favorite feature: how I feel after a cup
- Would I buy again? Yes, it’s on my tea shelf for good
A sleep tea with California poppy in the blend
I haven’t seen California poppy in many sleep tea blends. I’ve had most of the other herbs in this one before, just never alongside it.
The full list on the bag is chamomile flowers, hops flowers, lavender flowers, lemon balm leaf, linden leaf and flowers, oat tops and straw, passionflower, rose petals, vervain and California poppy.

Leckar Sleep Aid Herbal Tea, Restful Night
A bedtime blend in a resealable bag, made by a women-owned business with herbalist and pharmacist Marina Buksov.
Serving, steep time and what’s in the bag
- Serving: 1 tablespoon per 300 ml (about 10 ounces) of just-boiled water
- Steep: 3 to 5 minutes
- Format: loose leaf in a resealable bag, about 40 cups per bag
- Caffeine: none
- Melatonin: none
- Also: vegan, with herbs from Bulgaria
Who is this sleep tea for?
Anyone who wants a wind-down cup that skips melatonin. It’s also a good fit if you like switching up what you take at night instead of using one thing every day. That’s how I use the Som Sleep calm berry drink I tried too. The kindnature low dose melatonin gummies are one I might add to that rotation.
If lemon balm on its own is more your speed, the Hiihone lemon balm tea I tried is a single-ingredient cup.
How it made me feel after a few nights
I filled an empty tea bag with a tablespoon of the blend and let it steep. It’s good, with a light, pleasant flavor. Nothing overly herby, and nothing I had to choke back.

After four or five nights I absolutely loved it. It calms me down first, and then I get sleepy. I still have a cup about every other night. I don’t like to do anything every single night, so I rotate it.
Small things about the bag
- Resealable: the bag zips shut, so the herbs stay fresh between cups.
- Women-owned: Leckar is a proudly women-owned business.
What else I liked
- Pink rose petals mixed in with the green herbs
- One bag makes a lot of cups
What to know before buying Leckar Sleep Aid tea
- It’s loose leaf, so you’ll need empty tea bags or an infuser.
- Sleep teas affect everybody differently. How it works for me isn’t a guarantee for you.
Common questions about herbal sleep tea
Can you drink sleep tea with passionflower while pregnant?
Not this one. Passionflower shouldn’t be used during pregnancy because it may bring on uterine contractions, and there isn’t much known about it while breastfeeding either. Talk to your doctor before trying any herbal sleep tea then.
Is it OK to drink passionflower tea every night?
The NIH’s complementary health center lists passionflower tea as possibly safe for about a week of nightly use, and it can make you drowsy or dizzy. I have this one every other night anyway, since I rotate what I take.
Can you drink chamomile sleep tea if you take medication?
Check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Chamomile has been reported to interact with the blood thinner warfarin and might interact with sedatives. Passionflower might add to the sleepy effect of anesthesia, so tell your doctor you drink it if you have surgery coming up in the next two weeks.
Can you drink it with a ragweed allergy?
Be careful. Chamomile allergies are more likely in people who react to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds or daisies, and chamomile is in this blend.
Other bedtime teas to compare
- Traditional Medicinals Nighty Night Chamomile and Passionflower: organic tea bags with chamomile, passionflower, linden flower and spearmint. No California poppy, and no measuring.
- Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra: tea bags built around valerian root with chamomile and spearmint, and the bags come without strings or tags.
Would I keep Leckar Sleep Aid in my rotation?
Yes. It calms me down and then makes me sleepy, with no melatonin in it, so it’s staying in my nighttime routine as the cup I have every other night. I’d buy another bag when this one runs out.
