Super cute, squishy, and a warm little glow. That was my whole first reaction to Benson, and a few weeks of him living on my nightstand haven’t changed it.
UNEEDE sent him over for me to try, so I’ll say up front what he is and what he isn’t. He’s a happy little ambient light that keeps you company until you fall asleep. He isn’t a reading lamp, and the voice control the instructions mention never did anything for me. I don’t need a duck that listens, but you should know that going in.

What makes Benson different from a plug-in night light
Most night lights I’ve owned live wherever the outlet is. Benson runs on a battery, so he goes where the dark is. Nightstand one night, the floor next to a toddler bed the next, a hotel room after that. He charges over USB-C, so the cable is already in your house.
The other difference is that the whole duck is the switch. There’s no tiny toggle to find, and no remote to lose under the bed. A kid who can squeeze a stress ball can run this lamp, and a half-asleep adult can too.

Who is the Benson duck night light best for?
Parents shopping for a nursery or toddler room get the most out of him. The glow is soft enough not to bother a sleeping baby, the timer means nobody has to sneak back in to turn him off, and the silicone stays cool to the touch. Grown-ups are allowed too. I’m a fully adult person and Benson is on my nightstand next to the candle warmer lamp I use for the same low-light-at-bedtime job. If you want something on the bedside table that makes you smile before you turn it off, he’s an easy pick for any age. How bright is the Benson duck night light?
I shut the blinds in the middle of the day to see what he actually does. Level one is a dim, soft orange, the kind of light you can fall asleep facing. Level two is clearly brighter but still warm. From across the room he reads as a gentle glow in the corner, never a floodlight.
The timer buttons on the base are labeled clearly enough to read without squinting. One thing I noticed: when I set him down a little firmly, the touch sensor picked it up and cycled the brightness on its own. He’s easy to trigger, which is part of why he’s easy to use.
Four things I kept noticing
- Squeeze control: His head is the only control you need. Press to turn on, press to change brightness, press to turn off. It became a habit within a day.
- Built-in timer, or not: Pick 15 or 30 minutes at bedtime and he shuts himself off, or skip the timer and he stays on until you squeeze him off. I stopped thinking about it, which is the whole point of a timer.
- USB-C charging: He charges off the same cable as my phone. No special cord to keep track of, and a power bank works in a pinch.
- Silicone body: Squishy and pleasant to hold, with enough structure underneath that he keeps his shape when he gets knocked off the nightstand. Ask me how I know.

What are the downsides of the Benson duck night light?
- The included instructions mention voice control. I couldn’t get it to respond to anything, so treat him as a squeeze-and-timer lamp and you’ll be happy.
- The touch sensor is sensitive. Setting him down firmly can cycle the brightness, which matters if he lives on a low shelf near an active toddler.
- He’s an ambient light only. Great for drifting off, no good for reading or anything else.
- Battery life drops on the high setting. Overnight on bright means charging every day or two.

My take after a few weeks with Benson
Benson is a soft, squishy duck who glows warm orange, shuts himself off when you tell him to, and charges off a phone cable. I keep reaching over to squeeze his head at bedtime, and I’ve stopped noticing that I do it.
