I bought the DEPAD pill cutter because my older one had gone dull. Two months in, I’m still using it, and one part of it still bugs me every time. I like it. I’m not sure I’d buy it again.
Both of those are true at once, which is annoying for a review.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you split small tablets and your old cutter has stopped doing its job
- Skip it if: fiddly setup will wear on you. It wears on me
- My favorite feature: the blade. It’s sharp
- Would I buy again? I’m not sure
How does the DEPAD pill cutter work?
A gear on the side moves two silicone bars in or out to fit what you’re cutting. You set the tablets between the bars, then press the lid down.
The blade stays behind a guard until the lid comes down, so there’s nothing to nick yourself on when it’s open.

DEPAD Pill Cutter Splitter for Small and Tiny Pills
Adjustable bars hold the tablet in place and a guarded blade does the cutting.

Who is this pill cutter for?
It’s a good fit if you halve small tablets often and have patience for setup. If you’d happily skip a few pills altogether, three I’ve tried in chewable form are the calcium gummies with D3 and K2, the OH MY CHEWY magnesium gummies and the Snap sea moss chews.
Ask your pharmacist before you split anything. Some pills aren’t meant to be cut.
Halving pills also changes when a bottle runs out, so the refill date moves. Admin Arcade has a free appointment and refill tracker for keeping that date straight.

Can the DEPAD pill cutter split tiny pills?
Yes. The first one I tried was pretty small. I smashed it in there. Not smashed. Held. Then I pressed down and got a pretty clean break.
I wouldn’t have done that good of a job on my own. I know, because I’ve tried these with a knife. They’re too small for it.

How close does it get to the score line?
Darn close. My second test had a line down the middle, so I twisted it around until the line looked right.
This one worried me. It had no coating and felt powdery. It sounded like a nice sharp cut going through.
Two months later
Right now I have a tiny pill it isn’t slicing through nicely. It smushes it. I believe that’s the pill’s texture and not the cutter’s fault.
What I like about it
- It’s better than the one I had before.
- Small pills were the whole reason I went looking, and that’s the job it does best.
What to know before you order
- Lining pills up is the hard part. Practice hasn’t made it easy for me.
- Halves come out close, not exact.

Other pill cutters to compare
- Ezy Dose Pill Cutter and Splitter: One stainless steel blade and a safety shield, with no adjustable bars. It weighs under an ounce.
- EZY DOSE Multi-Pill Cutter and Splitter with Dispenser: Also cuts several at once, and adds a built-in dispenser tray for the halves.
- EQUADOSE Pill Splitter: Two aluminum blades cut from both sides at once, and a chamber keeps the pieces contained. Centering is done by hand.
My take on the DEPAD pill cutter
I’m keeping mine. If I were shopping again, I’d look at one or two others first.
