These glass pumpkins were sent to me to try, and they’re sitting on my fireplace mantel right now. I think they’re really pretty.
They run on batteries instead of a cord, so they can go anywhere. That’s also the one thing to plan for, because the set takes a lot of them.

What the crackly orange glass looks like lit up
The glass is a little translucent, with a crackly, speckled orange-gold finish. When the lights are on, they sparkle through all those little specks.
I think they’re just sparkly enough. Pretty, without turning the mantel into a light show.

They’re for anyone who wants lit fall decor somewhere without an outlet. There’s no cord to hide, so they can sit on a mantel, a bookshelf, an entryway table or a covered porch.

They came packed very safely, each pumpkin in its own cutout in a foam tray. I checked the battery compartments, switched one on, and then set all four on my fireplace mantel with some eucalyptus.
I kind of even like that they take batteries, because I’m sick of charging everything. Most of the things in our house need to be charged.
Three things that make them easy to set up
- Fairy lights already inside: Every pumpkin came with its lights in it. There’s nothing to string or tuck in.
- A daily timer: On TIMER, they’re set to stay lit for 6 hours, go dark for 18, and repeat every day. I’ve watched mine shut off on their own.
- Four different shapes: One tall gourd shape and three rounder pumpkins, so you can arrange them in a lot of different ways.
Two small things I like
- They’re a lot lighter than they look.
- Each pumpkin has its own switch, so you can light one or all four.
How many batteries the Glooglitter set needs
- Plan on 12 AAA batteries for the full set, since each pumpkin takes 3 and none come in the box. If you keep a stash, my Battery Daddy organizer holds 180 of them.
- They’re glass, so keep the foam tray for packing them away after fall.

Are the Glooglitter pumpkins real mercury glass?
They’re real glass with a mottled mercury-style finish. Traditional mercury glass is double-walled, with a silver coating sealed between the two layers, and despite the name it usually has no mercury in it.
Can these light up pumpkins go outside?
On a covered porch, yes. They’re made for indoor spots and covered porches, so keep them out of the rain.
Do they work for Thanksgiving decor too?
Yes. The orange-gold color says fall, not just Halloween, so they can stay out through Thanksgiving.
