This heating pad for the back, neck and shoulders was sent to me to try, and I was very excited to. It comes with a mesh bag, but I’ve got news for you. Something like this won’t be stored in my house. It’ll be used all year round.
I get really sore up in my shoulders and toward my middle back, and my neck is another sore spot. This one covers all three.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you work in a cold office and your neck and shoulders get sore
- Skip it if: you want to walk around while you use it, since it plugs into the wall
- My favorite feature: how far up my neck it goes
- Would I buy again? Yes
How far up the neck the reliefRX goes
The neck panel closes with three snaps, and it goes all the way up the back of my neck, up into my hairline. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything reach that high on my neck before.
From there it drapes over both shoulders and down my back, so one pad covers my neck, shoulders and middle back at the same time.

Who a wearable heating pad is for
If you work in a really cold office, or your neck and shoulders get sore while you sit at a desk, this is really nice for it. You’re already sitting in one spot, so the cord doesn’t get in the way. If you want something that works the knots out instead of warming them, this neck and shoulder massager for tight desk shoulders does that job.
It also works as a gift. I have a couple of people in mind I could get one for.
Putting it on and turning it all the way up
You loop a strap through on each side, snap the neck closed, and tie the bottom strap around your waist. Then you pull on the side straps to get the neck part where you want it, snug on the back of your neck and not on your throat.
I plugged it in at my vanity for the first try and turned it up all the way to six, because I don’t mess around with my heat. A few minutes later it was nice and hot. It heats up fast but slow and steady, and it felt amazing. It lives at my office now, and I’ve worn it there a few times since.

Three details I noticed right away
- Six levels that aren’t wimpy: Level six is really hot, and there’s plenty of room below it for a gentler day.
- A cord that reaches: It’s long enough to sit at my desk without moving anything around.
- It goes all the way around your back: The back panel hangs past my shoulder blades, so the warmth isn’t just on top of my shoulders.
What I like about how it feels
- The material is so soft, right out of the bag.
- It isn’t heavy like a weighted blanket, but it hugs enough to feel really secure.
- It felt cozy before I even plugged it in.
Before you order the reliefRX
- The straps confused me at first. I was like, what is happening? Once I looped them through and tied the waist, it was easy, and I could position it how I wanted.
- It’s corded, so it works sitting at a desk or in a chair, not walking around the house. For warmth on the move, this Gravel travel blanket stays on your shoulders with no cord.
reliefRX heating pad questions
Can you wash the reliefRX heating pad?
Yes. Detach the controller, put the pad in the included mesh bag, and machine wash it. Don’t wash it too often because of the heating wires, and don’t tumble dry it. You can also spot clean it with a damp cloth.
Does the reliefRX heating pad turn off by itself?
Yes. It has a 30, 60, 90 or 120 minute timer, and it shuts itself off when the time is up. It starts on level 3 with the 60 minute timer each time you turn it on.
Can you wear it right against your skin or sleep in it?
No to both. Wear a layer of clothing between you and the pad, don’t use it while sleeping, and don’t sit or lie on it or fold it up while it’s on.
Other neck and shoulder heat options to compare
- SunnyBay Hands-Free Microwavable Neck and Shoulder Wrap: No plug at all. You heat it in the microwave, or freeze it for cold. It’s filled with flaxseed, so it has some weight to it, and it has no straps, snaps or heat settings.
- Pure Enrichment PureRelief XL Heating Pad: A flat 12 x 24 inch pad you lay against your back or stomach instead of wearing. You can use it dry or mist it for moist heat, and it has a 9 foot cord.
- Auccipal Cordless Neck Heating Pad: A small, thin wrap for just the neck that runs on a built-in rechargeable battery, so there’s no cord. It has 3 heat levels and folds up small enough for a bag.
Is the reliefRX staying at my office?
Yes. I have a feeling it’s going to be part of my work uniform all winter.
If your office runs cold and your neck and shoulders are your sore spots, get it.
