My old chair mat is fabric, and I’m a little embarrassed by it. It collects dog fur, running a vacuum over it does nothing, and I don’t even know how to clean it.
Vaukki sent me this one to try as its replacement. I’m happy with it, and I know the new one is the better choice.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: your office chair rolls and your pets shed
- Skip it if: your desk sits on carpet
- My favorite feature: a tie between the glide, the easy upkeep and the look
- Would I buy again? Yes
Why a PVC chair mat beats a fabric one
Fabric holds onto everything that lands on it. This mat is a flexible PVC sheet, so spills and dirt sit on top instead of working their way into fibers.
It feels like something you can actually keep clean, and that alone puts it ahead of what I had.

Who should get the Vaukki chair mat?
Anyone who wants their office chair’s wheels off the bare wood. A home office the dogs wander through is a good match. If they track mud in too, the Smiry washable dog door mat handles the front door.
If you’re tackling the rest of your workspace, here’s how I set up two LUKETURE clamp-on desk organizers on one desk.

How the Vaukki mat feels under a rolling chair
I unrolled it in my bedroom first, since there was more open floor there than in my office. My office chair rolls really smooth on it, and I like that feeling a lot more than rolling on the bare floor. It’s quieter, too.
Smooth doesn’t mean slippery, though. The chair doesn’t roll any faster than you want it to.
My dog decided it was her new play mat, which is fine. Two months later it’s under my desk and still great.

Three details I noticed up close
- Grip on the back: it isn’t going to slide around.
- Thin but protective: it sits pretty flush, so you’re not stubbing a toe or tripping on the edge. It’s still thick enough to keep chair wheels from scuffing what’s underneath, which is the whole point.
- Good texture: the top has a fine woven feel, so it doesn’t look or feel like a sheet of plastic.
What else I like about it
- The design. I think it looks cool.
- No strange odor out of the roll, which is sometimes a concern with these.
- It’s big. There’s plenty of room before you run out of mat.
What to know before you order
- It’s made for hard floors. Don’t plan on it for carpet.
- It ships curled up, so give it a minute to lie flat once it’s down.
