I’ve got other portable chargers. They’re heavy, they dangle from the phone while it’s charging, and they weigh my purse down just sitting in there. This one snapped onto the back of my phone and I almost forgot it was there. That was the moment I understood why people make a big deal about magnetic power banks.
LISEN sent this to me to try. I tested it during a power outage, on a walk, and wired for anyone without a MagSafe case. Here’s what I found.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you want a featherlight snap-on charger that fits in a back pocket and doesn’t make your phone feel like a brick
- Skip it if: you need more than one full phone charge or you’re a heavy user running GPS, gaming, and streaming all at once
- My favorite feature: it just snaps on and stays there. No dangling cord, no extra weight pulling the phone down, no fumbling. I genuinely forgot it was on my phone during a walk.
- Would I buy again? Yes, already ordering a second one
Why This Is Different from Every Other Portable Charger I’ve Tried
Most portable chargers fall into two camps: lightweight but slow, or fast but chunky with a cord dangling from your phone the whole time. At 0.38 inches thick and 3.6 oz, this one sits flat on the back of my phone. It snaps onto the back magnetically, stays put, and charges at 15W through Qi2 certification, which is double the speed of older MagSafe packs. The size isn’t just a convenience thing. It’s what makes this one you actually use instead of one that stays in the drawer.

Who This MagSafe Battery Pack Is Actually Built For
This is a one-charge solution for anyone who commutes, takes long walks, travels, or regularly hits 20% battery by noon. It’s also a solid emergency kit item, which is exactly why I’m buying a second one for my power outage stash. Where it isn’t the right pick is for heavy phone users who game, stream, and run GPS at the same time. Those people will drain it faster and generate more heat. If you need to charge your phone twice over or want to top up multiple devices, a higher-capacity bank makes more sense.
How It Held Up During a Power Outage and on a Walk
I had it snapped onto the back of my MagSafe case while checking weather updates and texting during a power outage. The magnetic click felt solid, it didn’t wiggle or shift, and the LED indicator showed exactly how much charge the bank had left. My phone read 76% with five minutes to 80% while I was actively using it. I also took it on a walk just to see how it handled movement. It stayed put through maps and phone checks without feeling like it was going to slip. Afterward I tested the wired option for anyone without a MagSafe case and it worked exactly the same way, no difference beyond the cord.
Features That Won Me Over
- Pass-through charging: I can plug the bank into an outlet and charge both the bank and my phone at the same time. No choosing between topping up the bank overnight and keeping my phone charged.
- Magnetic hold that actually holds: 12N magnets are noticeably stronger than generic wireless pads. It didn’t shift or tilt even while I was walking and using the phone actively.
- No-MagSafe fallback: If someone I’m with doesn’t have a MagSafe case, I can hand them the USB-C cable and it works as a regular wired power bank. Same charging behavior either way.
- Safety certifications that matter: FCC, UL, TUV, and Qi2 certified. These are what separate a power bank that gets warm-but-fine from one that gets alarming. I noticed warmth during charging but nothing past what the specs flag as normal.
Pros
- Thin enough to fit in a back pocket without a noticeable bulge
- 15W Qi2 speed is meaningfully faster than older 7.5W MagSafe packs
- Phone stays fully usable during charging, calls, maps, texts, all of it
- LED indicator shows remaining bank charge at a glance
- Magnetic hold stayed secure through movement and daily handling
- Works wired too so no MagSafe case isn’t a dealbreaker
Cons
- Usable capacity is closer to 3000mAh not the full 5000mAh rating, so expect roughly one full iPhone charge
- Gets warm during charging, stays within safety limits but noticeable to the touch
- Charging speed dips after your iPhone hits about 75%, which is normal but worth knowing
- No kickstand or stand feature
Common Questions About the LISEN MagSafe Power Bank
Will it work with my phone case or do I need to remove it?
Works with MagSafe-compatible cases up to 2.5mm thick, no removal needed. Cases thicker than that can cause alignment issues and extra heat.
Is the 5000mAh capacity accurate?
Not quite. Real-world usable capacity after conversion losses is closer to 3000mAh, which translates to roughly one full iPhone charge. Enough for a day, not a weekend.
How hot does it get and is it safe?
It gets warm, around 96 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit during active charging. That’s within international safety standards and the temperature protection system kicks in if it runs too high.
Can I use my phone normally while it’s charging?
Yes. Calls, texts, maps, streaming, all of it works while the bank is attached. Keep it out in the open rather than in a bag for airflow during wireless charging.
Does it work with Android phones?
The magnetic snap is built for MagSafe iPhones. Android users can still use it as a wired power bank via USB-C but the magnetic wireless charging won’t work.
Is it safe to bring on a plane?
Yes. At 5000mAh it falls well under the FAA carry-on limit. Toss it in your bag without a second thought.
Similar Options Worth Comparing
- Anker MagGo Power Bank 5000: If brand track record is the top priority, Anker’s MagSafe bank is the established pick. Similar capacity and a slightly different form factor.
- Mophie Snap+ Powerstation Mini with Stand: Mophie has been making MagSafe accessories for years, so it’s the safe-name option if that matters to you. Qi2 15W like this one, with a built-in kickstand that the LISEN doesn’t have.
My Take After Using It During a Power Outage and on a Walk
I’m getting a second one. One for my purse as an everyday carry and one for the power outage kit I apparently need now. At this size and weight it’s the first power bank I’ve tested that I’d actually take on a walk without thinking twice. If you want one charge of backup that disappears onto the back of your phone instead of dangling from it, this one delivers.
More from the same stash: the BDH emergency ration bars I keep for outages, and the Ontel Battery Daddy that finally corralled every loose AA in the house. And for the outage itself, my who-to-call sheet keeps the power company’s outage line and account number on the fridge.
