XYMOGEN sent me their GI Balance powder to try. I’ve been trying to get a lot more L-glutamine in, so a chai-flavored powder built around it caught my attention.
XYMOGEN calls it soothing GI tract support. I went through the whole ingredient list before I mixed my first glass, and then I found out it’s actually tasty.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you want L-glutamine plus a botanical blend in one drink, and you like chai
- Skip it if: you avoid pork-derived ingredients
- My favorite feature: it’s actually tasty, so it’s easy to drink
- Would I buy again? Yes
What’s in XYMOGEN GI Balance besides L-glutamine
A two-scoop serving has L-glutamine, slippery elm, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, aloe vera, green kiwifruit, marshmallow root, licorice extract, quercetin, prune, chamomile extract, cat’s claw, and okra.
A few of those were new to me, like the glucosamine. Most of the rest I already knew. Getting all of them in one drink along with the L-glutamine is what made it look like an excellent blend to me.

XYMOGEN GI Balance Powder Chai Flavor
A natural chai flavored powder with 4 g of L-glutamine in every two-scoop serving and 14 servings in the tub.

Who might want to try GI Balance
Anyone already working on getting more L-glutamine in who’d rather drink a flavored blend than a plain powder. If you like reading a supplement panel line by line before you commit, my Olenphogy Magnesium 8 Pro review goes through a label the same way.
Things like this work differently for everyone. Check with your healthcare professional before you start, especially if you take medication.

Mixing my first glass of GI Balance
I needed a tool to get the seal open. Then I dug the scoop out of the powder.
It dissolves pretty well in water, but you have to stir it for a bit. If you have a handheld frother, that would speed it up a little. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I keep the spoon in the glass and re-stir as I drink.

Two things that stood out once I started drinking it
- It tastes like chai: it smells good, and you can really taste the chai. I don’t feel like I have to hold my nose and chug it to get it over with. I’m drinking it for a purpose, but it’s still pleasant. Same as the Som Sleep Calm berry powder, it’s a supplement drink I don’t have to talk myself into.
- You can start small: the directions say two scoops in 8 oz of water. I’d start with one scoop in about 4 oz to ease into it and see how your body reacts. You can always take more later, but you can’t take less once it’s down.
What I liked about the tub itself
- The scoop comes packed right in the tub.
- It’s sweetened with stevia leaf extract, with no artificial sweeteners or colors.
Before you buy: pork-derived mucin and label warnings
- It contains porcine gastric mucin, which comes from pigs, so it isn’t vegetarian or vegan.
- Per the label, talk to your healthcare professional before use and about any medication interactions. It isn’t intended for children.
- One tub is 14 servings at the full two-scoop serving.
