I take L-theanine and lemon balm on my own for sleep, so when I saw a gummy that stacked magnesium glycinate with both of those plus chamomile and no melatonin, I was genuinely curious. OH MY CHEWY sent these to me to try and I went in as a skeptic who actually knows what these ingredients do.
I haven’t been taking them long enough to report on long-term results, but I can tell you the flavor is shockingly good and the ingredient stack is legit. Here is what you need to know.
Quick Verdict
- Buy it if: you want a melatonin-free sleep gummy with a real ingredient stack and a flavor that doesn’t taste like a supplement
- Skip it if: you need a high-dose magnesium supplement since the elemental magnesium per gummy is modest at 28mg
- My favorite feature: the tart cherry and grape center fill. I took one in the middle of the day and immediately wanted another one. That’s not something I often say about supplements.
- Would I buy again? Yes
Why a Melatonin-Free Sleep Gummy Made Me Pay Attention
Most sleep gummies open with melatonin and call it a day. These skip it entirely and instead use magnesium glycinate as the base with chamomile, L-theanine, and lemon balm layered on top. I already take L-theanine and lemon balm separately for sleep, so seeing both on the label alongside a well-absorbed form of magnesium was enough to make me take this seriously. The combination works through your nervous system and muscles to support wind-down rather than triggering a hormone response, which is a different mechanism and one a lot of people prefer.

Who Should Try a Melatonin-Free Sleep Supplement?
These are a good fit if you have tried melatonin and didn’t love how it made you feel the next morning, or if you want something that supports wind-down without touching your hormone levels. They’re also a solid option if you already use magnesium or L-theanine separately and want to consolidate into one thing. If you’re looking at other sleep supplements like magnesium glycinate capsules, standalone lemon balm, or passion flower capsules, this gives you all of it in one gummy that actually tastes like something you want to eat.
What Does the Ingredient Stack Actually Do?
Magnesium glycinate is the form of magnesium least likely to cause digestive issues, which matters if you have tried other forms and had problems. Chamomile at 50mg, lemon balm at 40mg, and L-theanine at 20mg per gummy are meaningful doses, not trace amounts added to dress up a label. These are ingredients with real track records for supporting relaxation, and the combination here is one I would have put together myself if I were building a sleep supplement from scratch.
What I Noticed When I Tried Them
The first thing that hit me was the flavor. Strong grape and tart cherry when you bite into the center, and nothing artificial about it. I took one in the middle of the day just to taste it and immediately wanted another one. I took two that evening as the adult dose. I haven’t been using them long enough to say anything definitive about sleep results. What I can say is the experience matched what I expect from this ingredient combination, and nothing felt off. The tin arrived in perfect shape even with summer heat, which I appreciated since gummies usually don’t survive that well.
A gummy is only half of winding down though. If a racing brain is what actually keeps you up, I wrote up the ten-minute evening wind-down routine that helped me over on my other blog.
Pros
- Melatonin-free with a legitimate botanical stack
- Magnesium glycinate is gentler on digestion than other forms
- Flavor is genuinely good, not supplement-y
- Sugar-free, vegan, gluten-free, no artificial anything
- GMP-certified and third-party tested with a Certificate of Analysis per batch
Cons
- 28mg elemental magnesium per gummy is on the lower end if you’re chasing a higher dose
- At the adult dose of two gummies daily, a 60-count bottle lasts 30 days
- Results from this type of formula build over time, so don’t expect an immediate dramatic shift
Common Questions About Melatonin-Free Sleep Gummies
Will these work without melatonin?
Magnesium glycinate, L-theanine, lemon balm, and chamomile all have real evidence behind them for supporting relaxation and sleep. They work differently from melatonin and tend to build over consistent use rather than hitting immediately.
How much magnesium is actually in each gummy?
28mg of elemental magnesium per gummy. The 400mg figure on the label refers to the total magnesium glycinate compound, not the elemental amount. That matters when you compare it to other products.
Are they truly sugar-free?
Yes, no sugar, no sugar alcohols, and no artificial sweeteners. The flavor comes entirely from the tart cherry and grape center fill and it works well.
How do these compare to taking L-theanine or magnesium separately?
You get a lower dose of each ingredient than you would from a dedicated standalone supplement, but the convenience of having all four in one gummy that tastes good is a real trade-off.
How long does a bottle last?
At the adult dose of two gummies daily, the 60-count bottle is a 30-day supply.
How These Compare to Similar Sleep Supplements
I haven’t used any of these, so this is what they are according to their listings rather than a verdict from me. None of them carries a botanical stack, which is the thing that made me pay attention to the OH MY CHEWY.
| Product | Magnesium form | Botanical stack | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| OH MY CHEWY | Glycinate (28mg elemental) | L-theanine, lemon balm, chamomile | Melatonin-free wind-down plus flavor |
| Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium Glycinate Gummies | Glycinate (100mg per 2-gummy serving) | None | Magnesium on its own, sour grape flavor, 50 count |
| Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium Citrate Gummies | Citrate (165mg per 2-gummy serving) | None | A higher magnesium number, but sweetened with organic cane sugar |
| Standalone glycinate capsules | Glycinate (higher dose) | None | Chasing a high magnesium dose |
My Take After Trying Them
The ingredient stack is the real thing and the flavor clears a bar most supplements don’t. I’m not far enough in to report on sleep results yet, but I plan to keep taking them and I’d buy another bottle. If you want a melatonin-free option with ingredients that actually have a track record, start here.
